My Background

I’m am Tom O'Brien and I am in my seventh year as a special education teacher. I currently teach at Reeths-Puffer High School in Muskegon where I teach a regional classroom for students with moderate cognitive impairments. I have taught at two different districts, starting out at the Clare-Gladwin Area School where I taught a regional classroom for students aged 20-26 and now at the Reeths-Puffer with 9th-12th graders. I am also the boys varsity tennis coach at Reeths-Puffer and have been doing that for the last four years.

I attended Central Michigan University where I graduated with my bachelors degree with a double major in Special Education: Cognitive Impairments and History. I am currently finishing up my masters program at Michigan State University with a focus on educational leadership.

My wife and I recently welcomed our first child on May 11th, 2021 so we are currently adjusting to our new life! In my free time I enjoy going on hiking trips with my wife, we especially love visiting the Upper Peninsula in Michigan.  I love to hunt especially for ruffed grouse and to trout fish, my favorite is the brook trout. I spend as much time outdoors as I can and am very grateful to live near Lake Michigan
